On On August 3, 2014 a 6.5-magnitude earthquake occurred in the densely populated Ludian County, Yunnan Province, China. Ludian is a mountainous area located 277 miles northeast of Yunnan’s capital city of Kunming and is recognized by the Chinese government as being particularly impoverished. As of The Ministry of Civil Affairs has confirmed that over 600 people were killed, with more than 2,400 injured.

Canaan Disability Home (CDH) is a non-profit social welfare organization established to safeguard the dignity and respect of the impoverished and the disabled in Taiwan. CDH has been providing long term care for the disabled through social welfare counseling, occupational training and community service since 2007. With over 460 impoverished disabled in Pingtung county waiting for placement in disabled homes; the board chairman of CDH donated land for the NEST expansion project, which is to construct a new disability care center with 80 bed capacity.
