Give2Asia Launches Relief Campaign for Flooding in Bangladesh, India, China, and Japan

With your support, we can provide assistance to the local nonprofits caring for the communities most impacted by these floods.

During the last month, torrential rain caused severe flooding in Bangladesh, India, China, and Japan. In all four countries, this caused mass displacement, economic damage, and loss of life. Relief efforts are complicated by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. With your support, we can provide assistance to the local nonprofits caring for the communities most impacted by these floods.

2020 Bangladesh Floods

Bangladesh is experiencing some of the worst flooding in a decade, leaving nearly a quarter of the country flooded. The floods have impacted 4 million residents and caused at least 100 casualties so far. Across the country, homes, farmland, and roads have been flooded and damaged while water levels in large rivers remain at a dangerous level. Bangladesh is still dealing with damage from Cyclone Amphan and COVID-19, so this flooding is only exacerbating previous trouble.

2020 India Floods

India has been experiencing intense rainfall, leading to massive flooding and landslides around 30 districts in the country. Currently, there are 771 reported deaths, and 3.4 million residents have been impacted across 3,000 villages. This disaster has also damaged at least 160,000 hectares of viable cropland, creating further trouble for India’s recovery. Many portions of India’s roads and infrastructure have been damaged further complicating relief efforts. With forecasts predicting more rain, major rivers, including the Brahmaputra, are at high risk for overflowing and causing more casualties.

2020 China Floods

In China, torrential rain has been battering 27 major provinces for weeks. The disaster has so far caused 141 casualties and displaced nearly 40 million residents. Major rivers such as the Huai River and Yangtze River remain at high risk for flooding, jeopardizing the livelihoods of tens of millions of residents.

2020 Kyushu Floods (Japan)

In Japan, the floods have affected large parts of Southern, Southwestern, and Central Japan, with extensive damage on Kyushu. A week of torrential rain caused massive landslides and flooding, killing at least 77 people. With some areas receiving over 80mm of rainfall an hour, the Kuma River in the Kumamoto Prefecture is at risk of flooding over. Eastern and Western Japan remain on 24-hour downpour alert, and missing persons searches are getting halted due to heavy rain. The flooding is also bringing sediment into farmland, damaging crops and negatively impacting farmers’ livelihoods. These weather conditions are expected to last another two weeks, bringing more harm.
