SITUATION REPORT: August 3, 2023

Doksuri made landfall in the coastal county of Jinjiang in Fujian province, China, on July 28 at noon local time, with winds reaching speeds of 175kph (108mph), and causing record-breaking rainfall over 5 days. Several southeastern provinces in China were heavily affected, including the capital Beijing and the nearby province of Hebei. Heavy rainfall caused rivers to swell, damaging bridges and prompting evacuations. According to the latest reports, over 1.5 million residents (about the population of West Virginia) are affected with 20 deaths and 200,000 people displaced.

CURRENT PROGRAMS & PARTNERS

Give2Asia will continue to develop partnerships with organizations supporting relief and recovery. During this emergency response phase, Give2Asia is supporting the work of our partners with a range of program priorities, from providing urgent basic needs such as food, clean water, and health services to ensuring access to education for children, and economic rehabilitation services. Give2Asia is proud to work with the Partners listed below:

CHINA FOUNDATION FOR RURAL DEVELOPMENT (CFRD)

CFRD, one of Give2Asia’s longtime partners, was established in 1989 and is one of the largest and most influential public welfare organizations in the field of rural development in China. They are currently responding to the floods with the following activities:

Immediate Response and Relief Support:

  • Assembly of rescue teams to affected areas to aid in evacuation as well as disinfection work
  • Purchase of equipment for communication, power, lighting, excavations and water purification
  • Basic materials for affected people for the coming 15 days including food, drinking water, hygiene and sanitation kits.

Post flood recovery work:

  • Recovery work will focus on rebuilding homes and communities, supporting local business recovery and development, and the development of small-scale drinking water facilities to support affected populations to quickly return to normal life.
