Tomorrow-iCAN empowers first-generation college students in China’s Henan Province

The program supports and mentors high school students from low-income families striving to become the first generation to pursue higher education.

In July 2022, Give2Asia received good news about the students supported by the Tomorrow i-CAN program.

Among the 210 graduates funded by the program in the first year, 208 took the National College Entrance Examination, and 202 students exceeded the admission score for first-tier universities—a passing rate of 97%. (The remaining students still qualified for second-tier universities.)

Ms. Wang, a program participant, was admitted to Peking University. She shared the happy moment with her family after receiving the admission letter.

Furthermore, the 50 high school graduates funded by Give2Asia all passed the cutoff score of the first-tier universities, and 11 were enrolled in the top universities, such as Peking University and Tsinghua University. All of them will become the first generation in their families to attend college, transforming their future for the better.

With the support of the Tomorrow-iCAN Program, these students not only got scholarships but also received guidance from volunteer mentors and instructive online lessons from excellent teachers. Many program graduates now enrolled in the top universities joined the volunteer mentor team to help and encourage high school students in the program.

In 2022, Give2Asia will continue to work with the China Friendship Foundation for Peace and Development to support 810 students from 27 high schools in Henan and Shanxi Provinces to reduce the financial burden of their secondary schooling, encourage them to enter their ideal universities, and support their efforts to ensure a brighter future for themselves and their families.
