Feeding Hong Kong

Our Mission

The mission is to fight hunger in Hong Kong and reduce the amount of quality food that is being sent to our city’s landfills. Providing a link between Hong Kong based companies with surplus food stocks and Hong Kong registered welfare organisations providing support to those in need in the city.

The Need

1 in 4 people in Hong Kong are living under the poverty line, 45% of seniors and 25% of children struggle to meet their basic nutrition needs. At the same time, 3,353 tonnes of food are sent to landfill every day and the existing three landfills in Hong Kong require extensions.

The Solution

Collecting surplus stock from food companies, sort and store it, and redistribute it to multiple charities across the city. This approach allows Feeding HK to make efficient use of the established distribution channels, and serve a broad and diverse group of people.

Our Impact

Since 2011, Feeding HK have worked with over 420 food companies. The delivery service extends across the city's 18 districts. Through the partnerships with the food industry, they have saved over 4,400 tonnes of good food from landfill and 8.3 million kg in C02 emissions.

Food Drives: Uniting communities to nourish neighbours

Food drives are a powerful and inclusive way for everyone to contribute. They are especially effective at gathering essential, long-dated staples like rice, dried noodles, cooking oil, and canned goods—the very ingredients that form the foundation of daily meals in Hong Kong.

Throughout the year, Feeding Hong Kong encourage individuals, corporations, schools, and community organizations to host food drives, particularly around meaningful festive occasions. For example, in Hong Kong, the Winter Solstice Festival on 21 December is a traditional time for families to gather and share food. Aligning seasonal drives with these celebrations taps into a spirit of generosity, making donors more eager to provide these essential cooking staples and ensuring vulnerable communities receive timely, appreciated support.

For consistent giving, there’s also an established permanent Community Collection Points in partner offices and shops, offering local citizens a convenient way to drop off donations any time.

Last December alone, 34 organizations hosted Festive Food Drives, collecting an incredible 14,000 kg of food. These donations were shared across our network of grassroots charities, including crisis shelters, senior support services, refugee and new immigrant community centres, after-school clubs, and other vital non-profit programmes. Together, this network supports over 320,000 vulnerable people across our community.
