Our Mission

Providing high-quality care, education, life skills and livelihood opportunities to children who are blind or visually impaired through foster care and school projects. Partnering with organizations, institutions and corporations who share the vision in order to achieve greater impact.

The Need

According to statistics, China has 20% of the world's blind population. The least fortunate among the blind are the blind orphans. Bethel's school provides the blind and visually impaired orphans the education necessary so that one day they can lead a fulfilling, independent life.

Bethel’s Love Is Blind (LIB) Program is the banner that we run all of our education, therapy, and medical care under. The LIB Program has five project sites where Bethel’s services support 125 Blind and Visually Impaired children. The Bethel school offers classes in Braille, Chinese, conversational English, mathematics, science, orientation and mobility, daily living skills, physical education, social studies, computer literacy, hippotherapy (therapy on horseback), aquatherapy (therapy in water), and more. Bethel also supports the children’s medical needs ranging from eye surgeries, dental needs and much more. The program has touched the lives of hundreds of children. Bethel believes that all children are equal and deserve the proper foundation for success. Founded in 2002, several of Bethel’s eldest children have go on to graduate from universities. One has started his own podcast, others have started working in various upstanding jobs. Another has married and started a loving family of her own. Bethel envision’s the 125 children that are supported now, to have equal opportunities in their future.

Bethel’s second project, The Outreach program, provides families with the necessary trainings and resources necessary to stay together and improve the quality of care and educational opportunities for blind and visually impaired children across China.

Since 2010, Bethel’s Outreach program, Bethel has supported more than 5,000 Visually Impaired children nationwide. The program continues to reach hundreds more annually through our direct trainings and educational material distribution.
