Our Mission
Education is a fundamental way to change poverty. Yuanshan Education Foundation is providing special STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) courses to primary school students in rural China. We aim to develop students' learning capacity and interest in STEM.The Need
The number of science teachers in rural China is insufficient, and most of them are part-time teachers, leading to relatively weaker teaching outcomes. In the meantime, the uneven educational resource distribution makes it hard for rural students to gain STEM knowledge and skills.The Solution
Yuanshan Education Foundation will provide special STEM courses for the project schools/classes. The target students are in rural areas, and we aim to enlighten the students with introductory courses on STEM.Our Impact

Yuanshan Education Foundation independently develops STEM courses. We adopt the co-teacher teaching mode, which allows an expert teacher to give live STEM lessons online, and a local teacher to assist the class and guide the students offline. The courses start with the most urgently needed subjects in the countryside to promote the development of rural education and narrow the educational gap between rural and urban areas.
This project will carry out 12 STEM courses (60 mins each) in a semester and provide rural students with experiment materials (4 students share one experiment kit). In the class, guided by the two teachers, students will learn knowledge in engineering, architecture, transportation, media, and so on through an experimental approach, which will cultivate their interest in STEM subjects and improve their learning capacities.
At the same time, we will also carry out various STEM competitions for students, such as science knowledge competitions, to further stimulate students’ interest.
From September 2021 to April 2022, 80 STEM courses were delivered, covering 12 schools, 40 classes, 40 teachers, and more than 1,800 rural students. This project has also delivered 12,000 experiment kits for the local students.
More funds will enable more rural children to take STEM courses, learn science knowledge, and improve their learning capacities. This project can change the status of rural education in China, help more children access STEM education resources, and empower them with science and technology knowledge.
US$94 will provide STEM courses to one student for a year. $15,000 will enable us to deliver STEM courses to an entire school (4 classes) for a year.

Yuanshan Education Foundation is a 4A-level non-public foundation registered with the Beijing Civil Affairs Bureau. It is committed to using technology to promote the balanced development of education, providing high-quality educational resources for teachers and students in rural areas through the Internet, and alleviating rural education deficits caused by uneven educational resources.
This STEM project has been recognized with a charity project award at the 11th China Charity and Philanthropy Festival in 2021.
