On September 23, 2025, Taiwan’s government reported that at least 14 deaths, 32 injured, and 17 people missing following the devastating impact of Super Typhoon Ragasa. The storm, one of the strongest to hit in recent years, battered Taiwan’s eastern coastline, unleashing torrential rain, hurricane‑force winds, and widespread flooding. In Hualien, a major city in eastern Taiwan, the damage has been particularly severe: infrastructure has been heavily damaged, and entire communities have been overwhelmed by flooding and landslides.
Over a thousand people have been evacuated from their homes and are currently taking refuge in emergency shelters, as roads, bridges, and power lines lie in ruins in many areas. Preliminary reports suggest that hundreds of houses have been destroyed or rendered uninhabitable, particularly in the worst‑hit zones. While a full assessment is still underway, early estimates of economic losses run into the hundreds of millions of U.S. dollars, with widespread destruction to housing, public infrastructure, agriculture, and utilities across the affected eastern region.

In the aftermath, the most pressing needs are rescuing, providing emergency shelter, medical care, and essential supplies for those affected. Further needs include emergency food aid, psycho-social support, and temporary education facilities to replace the damaged schools. Medium-term recovery and rehabilitation work is also planned.
Give2Asia will continue to develop partnerships with organizations supporting relief and recovery. During this emergency response phase, Give2Asia is supporting the work of our partners with a range of program priorities, from providing urgent basic needs such as food, clean water, and health services to ensuring access to education for children, and economic rehabilitation services.
