The team at Give2Asia mourns the loss of Alexander D. Calhoun — “Sandy” — our founding Board Chairman, longtime supporter, and pillar of our community.
Sandy Calhoun passed away on November 25, 2025, at the age of 100.
From the earliest days of Give2Asia in 2001, Sandy’s vision, generosity, and commitment helped shape our mission and establish our reputation. Sandy’s deep commitment to bridging U.S.–Asia relationships and nurturing cross-cultural understanding grounded much of our early vision. Through his guidance, network, and generosity, our work gained both direction and legitimacy in its formative years.
As a distinguished corporate attorney and international philanthropist — with a career bridging the U.S. and Asia — Sandy played a pivotal role in restoring and strengthening post-war ties between the U.S. and Asia. He specialized in maritime, shipping, labor law — and eventually built a premier international corporate practice serving the Pacific Basin at Graham & James. He helped structure major corporate transactions with companies such as Bank of Tokyo, Japan Airlines, Hitachi, and Tokyo Mitsubishi. He later remained Senior Counsel at its successor firm and, even into his early 90s, provided consulting law services.
To Sandy’s family, friends, and the broader Give2Asia community: we extend our heartfelt condolences. Sandy served as our Board Chairman from 2001 to 2008. We honor his memory by continuing the spirit of connection, generosity, and impact he helped to inspire.
