Our Mission
HandReach's mission is to partner with Shriners Hospitals for Children to ensure that best practices in pediatric burn and amputee care and rehabilitation are available to traumatically injured children from impoverished areas of China and around the world.The Need
Worldwide, burns are a leading cause of death and disability among children. Such injuries are the most expensive to treat as surgeries and new prosthetics are required all through childhood. It is the poorest people, particularly children, who are the most unable to meet the financial burden.The Solution
HandReach provides poor children who are survivors of traumatic injuries with transportation, living and scheduling assistance needed for them to receive free medical care at Shriners Hospitals for Children. Thus, HandReach and Shriners partner to enable them to become independent, competent adults.Our Impact
Travel, room and board, appointment scheduling, and other support is client-tailored and labor-intensive, so HandReach helps four or five children per year. Overall impact is realized with school completion through the teen years, college admission, and career opportunities as they near adulthood.
