Energy Poverty Project

In DOMI’s study, they found that low income families are often experiencing energy poverty. Energy poverty refers to the situation that people are lack of access to modern energy service. In Taiwan, while the power grid is comprehensive and stable, low income households still cannot afford to replace electronic appliances, such as lighting system. 

DOMI also aware that the brightness of a household will influence the relationship between family members as well as life quality. 

Hence, DOMI, for many years, works in urban communities to identify low income families and offer them free lighting upgrades. To extend our impact, clients will complete a Poverty Stoplight Assessment to helps us understand their predicaments – economic, social, and health. The assessment can help us to tailor a strategy to improve their quality of life. 

By helping low-income families to upgrade their lighting system, it creates a three-win situation for both the household and the Earth: the power bill is cut; the life quality is improved; the carbon emission is reduced. 

So far, 3628 households have joined the project since 2015. DOMI’s collective effort represents their resolution to clean energy transition and creating a sustainable living environment.
