1994

A Seed is Planted

The Asia Pacific Philanthropy Consortium (APPC) is founded with the mission of increasing the quality and quantity of philanthropy for Asia.

Its leadership is composed of executives from private philanthropic institutions  across Asia.

Barnett Baron in San Francisco serves as founding governor and Rory Tolentino in Manila as Executive Director.

1999

An Idea Takes Shape

The concept for Give2Asia emerges from discussions between philanthropy professionals and a delegation of Chinese foundation leaders visiting the US.

Leveraging their donor networks and connections with Asia’s nonprofit sector, Barnett Baron and others build a business plan for a new nonprofit, which would function as a community foundation for Asia.

2001

A Public Charity is Born

Give2Asia launches as a 501(c)3 with seed funding from The Asia Foundation, Ford Foundation, and Rockefeller Brothers Fund.

Give2Asia makes its first advised grant — a scholarship fund to China on behalf of the Robert N. Chang Foundation, a family foundation in Silicon Valley.

2002

Expanding to India

Give2Asia expands its grantmaking initial geographic scope of 17 countries to include India.

2003

First Corporate Partner

Give2Asia begins work with its first corporate donor, Johnson & Johnson Foundation.

2004

First Major Disaster Response

Give2Asia launches its Friends Fund program, providing a trusted platform for overseas nonprofits to receive tax-deductible donations from supporters abroad

After the Andaman Sea Tsunami, Give2Asia mobilizes disaster response efforts in India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Thailand — raising $10 million towards local response and recovery projects.

2005

Strengthening Board Expertise

Give2Asia diversifies its board of directors, bringing in experts with business and development experience across Asia.

2006

Five Years of Growth

On its 5th anniversary, Give2Asia secures general support from the Skoll Foundation and Omidyar Network enabling new investments in infrastructure and capacity.

2007

Global Partnerships & Record Grant

Give2Asia formalizes referral partnerships with King Baudouin Foundation United States (KBFUS) and Fidelity Charitable.

Give2Asia makes its largest single grant to date—$15 million towards a project providing reimbursements for basic medical care and operations to vulnerable people in 145 villages across India, funded by Vikram Pandit’s Family Fund.

2008

Mobilizing for China

Following the Wenchuan Earthquake in China, Give2Asia raises $17 million towards immediate response and recovery efforts.

Giv2Asia surpasses $30 million in annual grantmaking for the first time despite global financial instability.

2009

Deepening Regional Presence

Give2Asia holds the first ever philanthropy forum in Beijing, hosting its Board of Directors in China for project site visits.

Give2Asia begins work with the Japan NPO Center and the Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy as its primary field presence in Japan and Pakistan

2010

Focused Donor Engagement

Business development efforts are expanded, adding expert focus to family philanthropy and corporate community engagement.

2011

A Decade of Impact

Following the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami in Japan, Give2Asia raises nearly $10 million towards immediate response and recovery efforts.

Give2Asia celebrates its 10th anniversary with its first-ever gala, featuring a keynote by Indian entrepreneur Gujuraj “Desh” Deshpande.

Give2Asia Hong Kong Foundation is launched.

2012

Expanding Asia Partnerships

On the year of its founding, Give2Asia becomes a member of the Asia Venture Philanthropy Network (AVPN).

Give2Asia becomes the steward of Asia-based academic research on philanthropy conducted by the Asia Pacific Philanthropy Consortium between 1996 and 2010.

2013

Investing in Philanthropy Infrastructure

Give2Asia becomes the first funder of The China Foundation Center’s leadership training program and further expands its Beijing team.

2014

Disaster Preparedness & Advisory Research

Give2Asia launches its Disaster Preparedness Program in partnership with the International  Institute for Rural Reconstruction (IIRR) and with funding from the Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies (MACP).

2015

Expanding Reach Across Asia

Give2Asia adds Bhutan and Myanmar to its geographic scope of grantmaking, bringing its total to 25 markets.

Give2Asia hosts its second gala in San Francisco featuring a keynote address by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus.

2016

Sustaining Through Change

With financial support from the Ford Foundation and guidance from its expert partners in China, Give2Asia prepares for the establishment of a China Representative Office.

2017

Official China Registration

Give2Asia receives its China Representative Office registration under the new Overseas NGO law thanks to the great support of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), which serves as Give2Asia Professional Supervisory Unit (PSU).

Give2Asia’s Friends Funds network grows to 250 funds.

2018

Scaling Up in China

Give2Asia grows its China-based presence to 8 people, while also adding expert program advisor resources in India, Singapore, and the Philippines.

2019

A More Global Team

Give2Asia and the King Baudouin Foundation in Belgium begin exploring deeper collaborations.

Give2Asia staff and location advisors convene for the first global all-staff offsite in Bangkok, reflecting a maturing international organization.

2020

Responding to COVID-19

Give2Asia emerges as the global leader in advised grantmaking to China reaching nearly US$30 million in annual grantmaking to the country.

Give2Asia raises $27 million for COVID-19 pandemic relief and mitigation programs across Asia, with a large focus on China in the first year.

Give2Asia launches and fully funds the Heroes’ Legacy Program, raising 2.9 million for the children of frontline workers who lost their lives providing medical care and essential services during the COVID pandemic.

2021

Innovation & New Programs

Give2Asia Australia launches to support cross-border philanthropy serving poverty alleviation goals across Asia on behalf of Australian donors.

Give2Asia launches Disasterlink, an Asia-wide network of local, pre-vetted emergency relief and recovery organizations that can receive support from Give2Asia on Day 1 of a disaster.

Give2Asia establishes Rural Doctors TCM Training and Tomorrow-iCAN Programs.

2022

Strengthening Regional Collaboration

First full year of Give2Asia and the King Baudouin Foundation United States (KBFUS) collaborating under the Myriad Alliance banner, creating a global network for cross-border philanthropy.

2023

Geographic Expansion

Give2Asia extends its geographic scope of grantmaking into the Middle East, adding 12 more markets.

Through the DisasterLink network, Give2Asia supports local charities providing emergency relief in response to earthquakes in Afghanistan and Morocco, as well as the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

2024

A New Focus on China

As the Myriad Alliance relaunches, Give2Asia refocuses its efforts leveraging its global leadership in advised grantmaking to China. Give2Asia now leverages the global reach of the Alliance to work efficiently with donors around the globe granting to China.

Give2Asia Australia becomes Myriad Australia with an expanded global mandate.

2025

Global Connections & Program Growth

Give2Asia adds new Board Directors with China expertise, such as nonprofit attorney Mark Sidel and East-West Philanthropy Forum CEO Wang Qinghong.

Global staff convene for all-staff offsite in China.

Give2Asia launches the Rural Family Health Program, expanding community health impact.
