Our Mission

Established in 2017, Teach For Cambodia has a vision that by 2050, all children will have the opportunity, education, and support to create a better future for themselves, their families, and their communities. In 2021, the work feels more urgent and important to Cambodia’s future than ever before.

The Need

Nearly half the Cambodian population is under 24 years old and the completion rate at the upper secondary level is only 22%. In the wake of COVID-19, 3.2 million Cambodian children are still out of school; the most marginalized are at risk of dropping out and falling back into the cycle of poverty.

The Solution

Amidst this crisis, Teach For Cambodia Fellows and alumni are a key part of the solution, playing an important role in nation-building by keeping students safe and learning during these uncertain times when education is even more critical to the future of the country.

Our Impact

Since 2017, 74 teaching fellows and alumni have worked in 19 high-need schools, reaching 25,000 students from 2nd to 12th grade from marginalized communities in Phnom Penh, Kandal and Kampong Chhnang. 80%—about 9,000 TFC students—access learning everyday compared to the national average of 35%.

Amidst this crisis, Teach For Cambodia Fellows, alumni, supporters, and partners are a key part of the solution. Now, more than ever, Teach For Cambodia plays an important role in nation-building, enabling the next generation to shape a better future for themselves and for all of us. At the same time, fellows and alumni keep their students safe and learning during these uncertain times when education is even more critical to the future of the country.

Impact

  • Since 2017, 74 teaching fellows and alumni have worked in 19 high-need schools, reaching 25,000 students from 2nd to 12th grade from marginalized communities in Phnom Penh, Kandal and Kampong Chhnang.
  • 80%—about 9,000 TFC students—access learning everyday compared to the national average of 35%.
  • 30 alumni graduated with a Masters of Education provided by the Royal University of Phnom Penh, and 90% of them are directly involved in public education and playing key roles in the COVID-19 response, including working at the policy level on social inclusion, blended learning, gender equity, and coordinating nation-wide initiatives for school directors and teachers.

Call to Action

This January 2022, the goal is to have 40 fellows reaching 10,000 children in impoverished communities across 3 regions. To sustain and grow this impact at such a critical time, Teach For Cambodia needs your support to help us raise $250K by October this year.
