Design and development of cities

Kota Kita Foundation is an Indonesian non-profit organization helping people make thoughtful and inclusive decisions about the development of their cities – by facilitating citizen participation and collective action. Kota Kita aims to empower a generation of people by promoting democratic and participatory approaches to improve urban areas. Our team conducts participatory urban planning and design, community mobilization, facilitating dialogue between government and citizens, as well as advocacy and research. Kota Kita’s promotes the values of pedagogy – by training local communities and young activists and sharing knowledge, raising awareness – by launching campaigns to get residents involved in community development, and by making urban information available and accessible to the public to improve citizen participation. Kota Kita has trained more than 100 young social activists, from all around Indonesia, through our ‘Urban Citizenship Academy’ program. The Urban Citizenship Academy trains young leaders from cities throughout Indonesia in how to advocate for and bring about social change in their communities. Kota Kita is helping them to find funding for their projects to help them to spread their message and impact. Since 2016, Kota Kita has advocated for the implementation of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the New Urban Agenda with civil society organizations, local and national governments, and with local communities.
