Our Mission

Established in 2002, Smile Foundation has a vision that by 2027 they will create a group of 50,000 well-trained healthcare workers by providing innovative and interactive training for youth.

The Need

The growing awareness in pandemic about health will definitely lead to a boost in per capita expenditure on healthcare and will increase demand for healthcare products and services. This in-turn will continue to multiply significant requirements for trained manpower in the Healthcare sector.

The Solution

Smile Foundation by March 2023, through its skilling programme, will train 1,000 youth in the age group of 18-35 years in the Healthcare Sector. After the training the students will be employed as General Duty Assistant/Bed Side Assistant.

Our Impact

So far Smile has trained 9,000 underprivileged youth as General Duty/Bed Side Assistants and in core employability skills. A minimum of 55-60% of the trained students got the placement. Beneficiaries became change agents and sensitize their parents and community on NCDs.

General Duty / Bedside Assistants play a crucial role in the pyramid of healthcare. Assistants provide patient care and help maintain a suitable environment. Key responsibilities of the GDAs include providing the patient with daily care, ensuring the patient’s comfort and safety and attending to the patient’s health needs.

General Duty / Bedside Assistants can look forward to satisfying career growth by taking on more responsibilities. Certified students start their careers as General Duty / Bedside Assistants after which they can take up the profession of Nursing Assistants. After gaining some experience as Nursing Assistants, they can take up the job role of Supervisors, Floor Supervisors, and finally Managers, which are deemed to be more independent job roles.

Aim of the project seeks to enhance skills to provide employment opportunities for underprivileged youth especially focusing on women in the formal sector and promote health seeking behavior.
