Our Mission

Combining skateboarding with creative, arts-based education gives children the opportunity to become leaders for a better world. They focus on groups often excluded from sports & educational opportunities, especially girls, children with disabilities & those from low-income backgrounds.

The Need

Skateistan aims to provide a safe space for education, fun, and sports for children, especially for women & girls and marginalized youth. Specifically, in areas where security, poverty, ethnic divides, gender inequality, issues facing women, and disabilities are affecting youth on a daily basis.

The Solution

Running five programs within the Skate Schools for children aged 5-17: Outreach, Dropping In, Skate & Create, Back to School & Youth Leadership (as well as the Goodpush Alliance). These programs combine life skills with fun, freedom, and creativity to help create leaders for a better world.

Our Impact

Running programs in Cambodia, South Africa, Jordan, Albania, and Afghanistan with 52.59% of students attending being girls. They provide safe spaces where children can have fun, build their skills and confidence and break down social barriers by making new friends.

Skateistan is an award-winning international development organization and the first to empower children in fragile settings through skateboarding and arts based education. Founded in 2008 on the streets of Kabul, Skateistan aims to reach 4,500 children (aged 5-17) across Central and South East Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, South America and the Middle East. The focus is on children who are often excluded from sports and educational opportunities, especially girls, children from low-income backgrounds, children with a refugee or migrant background and children living with disabilities, providing valuable life skills that go beyond the skatepark and classroom. Skateistan’s unique programmatic approach enables children to change the story of their futures and creates leaders that make a better world.
