Building resilience through innovations

SEEDS (Sustainable Environment and Ecological Development Society, www.seedsindia.org) is a 25 years experienced humanitarian organisation that enables community resilience through practical solutions in the areas of disaster readiness, response and rehabilitation.

Since 1994, the organisation has worked extensively on every major disaster in the Indian subcontinent – grafting innovative technology on to traditional wisdom. SEEDS is recognized as one of the important humanitarian actors in India and Asia. It has reached out to families affected by disasters and climate stresses; strengthened and rebuilt schools and homes; and has invariably put its faith in skill building, planning and communications to foster long-term resilience. SEEDS is also India’s first agency to be certified for the global Core Humanitarian Standards – an international certification system for quality and accountability in humanitarian response.

COVID-19 Response

The primary concern at SEEDS is for a rapid de-escalation of COVID-19. The impact of the pandemic has started to emerge with the lockdown situation, and the long-term consequences will be far-reaching and particularly extreme for the most vulnerable in India. Daily wage earners with marginal savings have temporarily lost their jobs and are unable to access food and essential items to sustain themselves. The elderly in old-age homes or living by themselves without adequate support systems face acute challenges. Due to isolation, they do not get information about what to do and they are not able to get the food they need if neighbourhood stores are out of stock.

SEEDS is reaching out to 1,000, 000 underprivileged and vulnerable persons in partnership with Government of India and state governments of Kerala, Maharashtra, Odisha, Bihar, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Karnataka. We are reaching to those who are ‘invisible’ individuals and families – the elderly, children, daily-wage earners, and front-line health and aid workers.

The team is already reaching out to the most in need with dry ration, hygiene kits, financial support, games and related material for psychosocial support to children, support to local public health systems, setting up and maintenance of quarantine and isolation centres.

SEEDS need your kind support for reaching out to 1 million underprivileged communities across India
