RAEBIA Timor-Leste, a local NGO established in 1997, is dedicated to supporting and empowering rural communities. Initially, it operated as USC Canada’s field office but became an independent Timorese organization in 2013. They have valuable partnerships with organizations like JICA, UN FAO, GIZ, US AID, and the Government of Timor Leste’s Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries while maintaining collaboration with USC Canada. RAEBIA’s primary focus is on promoting food and livelihood security and sustainable natural resource management in remote areas of Timor-Leste. They actively advocate for conservation agriculture, agrobiodiversity, and agroecology principles to achieve their mission.

RAEBIA Timor Leste has some experience in disaster management, specifically in the following areas:

1) Emergency Relief and Response: provision of medical support, psychosocial support, food relief, emergency food rations, and shelter management;

2) Livelihood recovery: alternative livelihood support, capacity building to restore/strengthen people’s livelihood;

3) Disaster Risk Reduction: risk assessments, contingency planning, disaster risk mapping, capacity building for disaster preparedness for local community groups, and disaster drills. Moreover, RAEBIA Timor-Leste is one of the ASERD (Assosiasaun Servisu Redusaun Risku Dezastre) Timor Leste members that closely work to respond to disasters in Timor-Leste, together with the Government, especially the Secretary of State for Civil Protection. Their last response to a disaster event was in 2021.

RAEBIA Timor Leste operates at the local and national levels, specifically in the Dili Municipality Dili village of Hera and Metiaut, Post Administrative Cristo Rei and Village of Dare Post Administrative Vera Cruz; Municipality Manatuto Orlalan Village, Post Administrative Laclubar; and Municipality Aileu Village of Fadabloco Post Administrative Remexio.

RAEBIA Timor-Leste is recognized as one of Give2Asia’s Fund partners due to its active participation in disaster relief efforts in Timor-Leste. RAEBIA is well-equipped to implement programs for disaster risk reduction due to the capacity of its staff and membership in ASERD Timor Leste.
