From Poverty to Opportunity

Pour un Sourire d’Enfant (PSE), aka For a Child’s Smile is a French organization, working solely in Cambodia, to provide education and care to children in situation of extreme poverty. PSE was founded by French nationals in 1995 when they witnessed Cambodian children scavenging for food and items to sell on Phnom Penh‘s main dump site. PSE’s mission is to help children escape destitution and lead them to decent, skilled and well-remunerated jobs. To achieve this goal, six main programs – adapted to the needs of the children – have been developed: food, health, protection, education & schooling, vocational training and help for families.

45 new Classrooms

PSE’s classrooms were built twenty years ago and were on their last legs after years of flooding and termite infestation.

During those years, the numbers of students has steadily increased along with the services offered.

The project was started at the end of 2019 and will be completed by the end of December 2020.

It will serve the needs of

  • 1,000 students in remedial education
  • 1,100 students attending before / after school programs (550 students benefit from tutoring in the morning and another 550 in the afternoon)

The US Chapter of PSE has committed to funding one classroom for a total amount of $30,000.
