New Life

Our Mission

To bring poor women and their children into the mainstream of the economy and thereby help them participate in the process of nation-building, New Life is committed to building a civil society based on equity and social justice, where women, children, and youth are the leaders of social change.

The Need

4,109 children (ages 6-14) from poor economic and social backgrounds are engaged in child labor in Tiruchirappalli Town. Industrial growth negatively impacted these children. They receive low wages and are exploited since their parents are less educated and have no means to educate them.

The Solution

The project aims to provide orientation to identified child laborers, counseling for their parents, infuse the identified children with confidence, motivation, and a desire to continue their higher studies, and facilitate the admission of motivated and eligible children to regular schools.

Our Impact

The project has reduced child abuse and school dropout rates, and improved wages and health of the children and the standard of living for families of ex-child laborers. 572 ex-child laborers have received education support and 421 have been placed in good jobs.
