Jagruti was registered in November 1998 as a Non-Government Organization (NGO) working with an emphasis on gender agenda. Jagruti works to develop 22 villages in Khanapur Taluk of Belgaum District, Karnataka State, India. Jagruti's mission is to work with the poor and excluded in their struggle to eradicate poverty, patriarchy, and injustice. Jagruti advocates and campaigns for the dignity and well-being of the oppressed and marginalized, and is committed to the rights of the those most disadvantaged. Jagruti has also formed a women’s organization ‘Jagrut Mahila Vakkutta’ which is a platform for rural women to raise issues concerning their daily lives.

Give2Asia’s support has been instrumental in setting up an affordable drug outlet in the town of Dharwad. This October 2020 the drug outlet will complete two years of its operation.

Jagruti is ready for the next phase which is "Awareness Building Regarding Rational Use of Medicines”, an education campaign among consumers. This program intends to further strengthen the existing affordable drug outlet and fill the gaps by working towards educating the people – the consumer, as to how medicines can be made rationally used and to bring awareness among the consumers regarding scientific and proper use of medicine.
