Beginning on July 16, a rare torrential rain occurred in Henan Province, China, affecting 1,240,737 people in 560 towns in 89 counties (cities/districts). The north and central parts of the province have faced extreme rainstorms, specifically in Zhengzhou, Jiaozuo, Xinxiang, and Pingdingshan – causing flooding to farmland and houses, landslides, water and power cuts, and communications and transportation disruptions. So far, 25 people have died and several are missing due to the extreme torrential rains. A total of 16,325 people have been evacuated, and 164,710 people have been resettled to safer areas.
