When the COVID-19 crisis hit, the poorest suffered the most. After losing jobs and suffering from salary deduction, many low-income families faced with financial pressure can only cut food costs to save money often translating into poor nutrition, especially for their children.
This program, organized by Give2Asia and delivered by our local nonprofit partners, aims to provide 100-150 low-income families with children with nutritious meal kits. For six months, they will receive four meal kits a week that are specifically designed and recommended by a dietitian. The dietitians will also equip the families with basic knowledge on nutrition and healthy eating.
Furthermore, the catering industry has been hard hit by the coronavirus. Many businesses have already scaled back or suspended operations, and many face unemployment. This project invites women from those low-income households who have been affected to help prepare the meal kits.
Therefore, this program will not only give low-income families who are disproportionately suffering from COVID-19 to access protective equipment and nutritious meals, but also create more job opportunities for women from low-income households. Together, we can also help protect the health of low-income children impacted by COVID-19 and improve their health conditions through nutrition in the long run.
