SITUATION UPDATE: January 2022

The fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic has severely impacted Vietnam. In the first week of January 2022, Vietnam recorded more than 15.000 Coronavirus cases with 4 Omicron variants. The Omicron variant infected 68 cases in total, with 50 percent of the new variant cases found at Ho Chi Minh City. The government is preparing hospital facilities to anticipate treatment and quarantine for asymptomatic cases.

Since last summer, mandated closures of non-essential businesses, restaurants, bans public gatherings, and severely limits transportation services affected many provinces of Vietnam, including main cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city. This has posed difficulties and hardship to many locals as they are not able to work to earn their living due to the shutdown. Social groups try to help with local needs such as providing food, food delivery, necessities support.
