SITUATION UPDATE: January 2022

As of end December 2021, Singapore Covid-19 daily cases are increasing, with the majority confirmed as the Omicron variant. With significant numbers of locally transmitted cases, Singapore is facing an Omicron wave.

Fortunately, 91% of the population has been completely vaccinated, and about 51 percent received booster shots. The government delayed some planned reopening measures since the news of Omicron was first reported, which potentially signaled a mood of caution across Singapore. The government is providing health consultation services and continue advising people to take extra precautions.

CURRENT NEEDS

Our current funding priorities in Singapore include:

  • Financial assistance, such as cash vouchers
  • Temporary accommodation for quarantines
  • Medical equipment & facilities

LOCAL PARTNERS (partial list)

Our local grantees include:

Community Foundation of Singapore

The Community Foundation of Singapore (CFS) was founded in 2008 to encourage and enable philanthropy in Singapore. Since then, they have set up 142 donor advised funds, raised $159 million in donations and given out some $87 million in grants.

The CFS is doing Sayang-Sayang program to help bolster frontline healthcare staff to ease their commutes to and from work in the form of transport vouchers. They also provide meals and are looking to support vulnerable communities especially impacted by COVID-19’s precautionary measures. For example, seven thousand children from low-income families are now at risk from losing access to meals provided in school due to the implementation of home-based learning.

Food from The Heart

Food from the Heart (FFTH) is a non-profit organisation that feeds the needy through its food distribution programme. It was established in February 2003 after Singapore-based Austrian couple Henry and Christine Laimer read a report in The Sunday Times about bakeries discarding their unsold bread. Stirred, they then decided to channel surplus food from bakeries to those in need.

FFTH’s COVID-19 program provides food ration packs to children of less fortunate families, will include healthy food including rice, canned baked beans, milk, eggs, among other items. Rations will be assembled by corporate and/or individual volunteers at the grantee’s warehouse center. The grantee’s logistics team delivers the packs to the school on a designated day, and the parents of the kids will collect the packs from the school.
