SITUATION UPDATE: Situation Update: April 2022

With a wide range of Omicron outbreaks in several cities in China, Shanghai has been experiencing the most severe epidemic wave since 2020. According to the Government’s statistics, by April 11, Shanghai has 8,714 domestic confirmed cases and 205,617 asymptomatic carriers. With about 20,000 Coronavirus carriers emerging every day recently, Shanghai is currently under lockdown. The Government is continuously conducting tracing to track down Coronavirus cases and reduce the number of active cases. In various other cities with sporadic cases, citizens have been warned by the local Government to avoid traveling unless necessary, especially during the upcoming Labor Day holidays.

USE OF FUNDS

In the past two years, Give2Asia Donors have supported dozens of local partners with total grantmaking reaching US$15 million. This enabled nonprofits to purchase relevant medical supplies (such as masks, protection suit, goggles) and to provide frontline workers with food, subsidies, and lodging costs.

The support continues with Give2Asia’s Heroes Legacy Program to support families of Covid-19 victims, and Rural Doctors Program aims to provide better healthcare service especially to remote areas around China.

To learn more about the early campaign to support frontline health workers and hospitals responding to the outbreak in Hubei Province, read our progress report on COVID-19 relief efforts from January 2020 to July 2021. LONG-TERM RECOVERY

Supporting long-term recovery is equally important to help communities and families recover. Long-term needs will include mental health support and rehabilitation for frontline workers, care for children of health workers who lost their lives due to COVID-19, and education to prevent future epidemics.
