India’s second wave of COVID-19 is causing unprecedented devastation. The country, which was reporting less than 15,000 cases a day just last month, is averaging over 300,000 confirmed cases per day. The official death count has reached 258,000, and will likely continue to rise in the coming weeks.
The current wave started in the western states of Maharashtra and Gujarat and has now engulfed the entire country. The health system is extremely stressed across the nation and collapsing in some areas. A critical shortage of ICU beds, oxygen supply, and even cremation grounds is compounding the tragedy.
In a crisis of this magnitude, local knowledge counts. Give2Asia is partnering with trusted nonprofit organizations to support frontline health workers and at-risk communities.

The Indian Red Cross – Maharashtra
IRCS – Maharashtra is part of the Indian Red Cross, a voluntary humanitarian organization with a network of over 700 branches throughout the country. IRCS – Maharashtra operates the Bel-Air Hospital, a general hospital with a facility for 250 beds. It has departments of general medicine, chest diseases, orthopedics, and other specialties and also has a well equipped laboratory, X-ray, E.C.G. department and I.C.U.
