Central Himalayan Rural Action Group was registered in 1986 and started its operations in the Kumaun region of Uttarakhand in 1987. The organization began its operations in the health sector by setting up a Rural Health Clinic (RHC). With the realization that there are various interconnected aspects where interventions were required, Chirag adopted the philosophy of integrated development to achieve its goal. Currently, Chirag has a presence in over 200 villages in 4 districts. Chirag’s programmes include - Natural Resource Management: Community Forestry, Soil and Water Conservation, Spring Recharge, Fodder Development - Health: Curative and Preventive Health - Education: Primary School Support, Girl Scholarship, and Chirag School - and Rural Livelihoods: Agriculture & allied activities, Animal Husbandry, Poultry, Value Addition.
