Our Mission

The Mission of the CCC is to manage programs and provide training and other services that support community development in the Municipality of Covalima.

The Need

There are many vulnerable communities in Covalima that experience disasters due to extreme weather conditions. They focus on inclusion and ensuring all members of the community, especially the most vulnerable, have the information and resources they need to reduce the impact of disaster.

The Solution

CCC works with communities to build their resilience to reduce disaster risk. They provide information and training to help communities prepare for disasters and manage resources—building networks within communities and local government departments to share information and skills.

Our Impact

CCC continues to work with vulnerable communities to receive the information, training, transport, and resources they need to prepare for and mitigate disasters. They have built trust with local leaders and have a strong reputation for promoting gender equality and inclusive practices in their work.

Centro Comunidade Covalima (Covalima Community Centre) is a community-based organization with extensive experience in supporting community development. Their programming encompasses numerous facets of rural development, with a particular emphasis on rural women’s participation. Besides focusing on rural women’s participation, CCC also has some experience in disaster management, specifically in the following areas:

1) Emergency Relief and Response: provision of medical support, psychosocial support, food relief, emergency food rations, and shelter management;

2) Livelihood recovery: alternative livelihood support, capacity building to restore/strengthen people’s livelihood;

3) Disaster Risk Reduction: risk assessments, contingency planning, disaster risk mapping, capacity building for disaster preparedness for local community groups, and disaster drills.

CCC Timor Leste operates at the local level, specifically in the Covalima districts, which consist of 7 Administrative posts: Suai Vila, Maucatar, Fatululic, Fohorem, Fatumean, Tilomar, and Zumalai. It also works in 30 villages within these districts.

CCC’s program is backed by a diverse team of personnel. Specifically, for the disaster management program, CCC boasts a qualified DRR coordinator with relevant expertise. This coordinator efficiently manages the staff in the program and has participated in numerous training sessions and presentations at both local and national levels. Moreover, he has delivered presentations on DRR during the commemoration of Disaster International Day. Due to his accomplishments, the coordinator is widely recognized by ASERDTL, Plan International, and other national and international organizations in Dili.

CCC aims to be considered as one of Give2Asia’s Friends Fund partners because it has been actively responding to disasters in Timor-Leste, with a focus on the Covalima district. In addition, their expertise in gender-based violence is an asset for gender-sensitive disaster management.
