Launched in 2005 by social entrepreneur Chay Lo (Schwab Foundation awardee), 1001fontaines improves the lives of rural populations in Cambodia, Madagascar, and India by helping them access safe drinking water in a safe, autonomous, and sustainable way. Small water kiosks are set up and entrusted to local entrepreneurs in charge of selling the water at an affordable price to the villagers, and providing it free of charge to local schools. Today, 350,000 people benefit from the service (including 90,000 children) and the project is on its path to reach 1 million by 2020.
