Scott Sugiura, Senior Program Officer

Scott manages accounts and relationships with corporate, foundation and individual donors. This role allows him to work closely with donors to achieve their philanthropic goals in Asia.

Scott came to Give2Asia from VIA (formerly Volunteers in Asia) where he was Executive Director for 6 years. At VIA Scott oversaw program development and fundraising for VIA’s volunteer work in Indonesia, China, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia and Thailand. Under Scott’s leadership VIA also developed new service-learning focused programming for Asian undergraduate students from Japan, Taiwan, China and Korea at Stanford University.

Prior to VIA, Scott was the Managing Director at Japan-US Community Education and Exchange (JUCEE) where he developed a re-granting program supporting collaboration between US and Japanese nonprofits. He has been working in the Bay Area nonprofit sector for the past 16 years including stints at the Tides Center, Tides Foundation, Asian Pacific Islander American Health Forum, Rainforest Action Network and Project Open Hand. Scott also worked on the Thai-Cambodian border in the early 1990s on land mine awareness programs with the International Rescue Committee.

Scott received his bachelor’s degree in Diplomacy and World Affairs from Occidental College and did graduate work in International Relations at San Francisco State University.
