KDAB Mother & Child Health Care Center & Hospital is a project initiated by the Korean Development Association in Bangladesh (KDAB), an NGO that has been working successfully in Dhaka and rural northern Bangladesh for over twenty years. KDAB’s mission is to assist in achieving self-sufficiency and to improve social, economic and cultural emancipation of the unprivileged through patriotism and local leadership.

While KDAB has enabled great progress in many areas—education, computer training, garment worker training, music education, primary health care, family planning, safe water access, latrine access, leprosy rehabilitation, and farmer training—a gap remains. Women and children in the Kurigram District who need medical services beyond primary care have no access to a facility. The nearest hospital, with only minimal capacity, is a two-hour drive from the area. Even primary care services in Kurigram are inadequate because of very limited facilities, and the cost of care is beyond the capacity of most people.
In response, KDAB aims to raise funds to build a modern 50-bed hospital in this rural district. The hospital will provide general treatment, surgical treatment, emergency care and ambulance services, as well as diagnostic services, including x-ray imaging and laboratory testing. Expert doctors and nurses will be staff the hospital, which will include a residential facility to accommodate their need for living quarters and 24-hour availability to patients.
KDAB Mother & Child Health Care Center & Hospital’s vision for providing services is aligned with several “Bangladesh Vision 2021” goals of the government, including:

- reducing infant mortality
- increasing family planning methods
- eliminating contagious diseases
- meeting basic health care needs
