The Friends of Carla Grissmann Fund is dedicated to the memory of Carla Grissmann and to support the continuing work of the Kabul Museum in Afghanistan. Carla worked tirelessly for years in Afghanistan and from the United Kingdom to assist the Kabul Museum in finding, protecting, inventorying, and exhibiting Museum pieces endangered or lost as a result of war, conflict, looting and the intentional destruction of some of its collection. At one time, the Museum housed the “most comprehensive record of Central Asia history. Many of its pieces have been dated as far back as prehistoric times.” (Afghanistan Online, “Kabul Museum,” March 21, 2001.) It includes the re-discovery of the Bactrian Gold collections in 2003 stored in underground vaults in Kabul and cataloged with the support of National Geographic Society. Give2 Asia, The Asia Foundation and the Museum Director (with whom Carla worked closely for years), are working together to identify the best use of the funds raised in honor of Carla in order to support her work and help the Museum continue to serve as a reminder of the unique history of Afghanistan for both the Afghans and the international community.
