Foundation for the Education of Rural Children (FERC)

The Foundation for the Education of Rural Children is dedicated to assisting rural and hill tribe children in the Golden Triangle area of northern Thailand. Headquartered in Chiang Mai, FERC’s objectives are to:

  • Provide supplies for rural schools including text books and materials, clean water and sanitation facilities, kitchen equipment and facility construction.
  • Furnish scholarships to talented and deserving students to attend regional and provincial educational institutions.
  • Work with community organizations to prevent child exploitation and human trafficking by providing a path to success that only a good education can provide.

In existence since 1999, FERC has developed a reputation for its very low operating costs. Board members, from Thailand, Europe and the United States are volunteers and receive no compensation for their services. FERC’s experience in working cooperatively with local education districts, community groups and social service agencies, enables it to fund projects that are sustainable, culturally appropriate and tailored to fit student population needs.
