This fund supports the Coral Triangle Center Foundation’s efforts to help ensure the livelihoods of millions of people, today and in the future, by inspiring the commitment and sharing the knowledge and skills needed by leaders and communities to effectively care for the rich marine resources and coastal ecosystems of the Coral Triangle.
The Coral Triangle is considered by scientists to be the global epicenter of marine diversity and a major center of coral evolution. It spans coastal and marine areas of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Timor Leste. The unparalleled marine and coastal resources of the Coral Triangle provides food security for more than 126 million people in the region and benefit many communities living adjacent to our region. Yet pressures from expanding populations, economic growth, and international trade are degrading ecosystem functions and reducing our region’s ability to ensure food security for the long term. The Coral Triangle Center inspires leaders and communities to get involved in marine conservation and sustainable resource use activities, and providing the practical skills and knowledge they need to effectively care for the coastal ecosystems entrusted to them. CTC has initiated a targeted capacity development approach with partners to strengthen the local, national and regional capacity of marine practitioners, policy and decision makers, local communities and organizations throughout the region. The strategies combine customized training drawing on traditional knowledge and modern science, field test and leverage effective marine resources management practices with learning networks and collective action. The Center aims to be an inspirational hub for marine conservation and a knowledge center of excellence for training programs and outreach activities on the marine resources of the Coral Triangle.
