China Children and Teenagers’ Foundation (CCTF) is the first charity organization founded since the establishment of the People’s Republic of China. Its mission is to care for, foster and educate children, and to assist in developing the education and welfare of children, especially in the impoverished regions of China.
Since many of the children in China are not covered under the current social security and welfare system, CCTF has established the China Children Insurance Foundation (CCIF) to help them fight against critical illnesses. CCIF has built a charity platform through an innovative combination of insurance and traditional charity activities. Under CCIF’s charity plan, every US$8 donated will provide US$15,000 of protection towards a needy child for one year against twelve types of critical illnesses, i.e., malignant tumors (including leukemia); organ and stem cell transplants; acute kidney failure; aplastic anemia; benign brain tumors; acute hepatitis; sequelae of cerebritis or meningitis; infantile paralysis; serious juvenile rheumatoid arthritis; serious Kawasaki disease; Myasthenia Gravis; and
insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus.
By the end of 2010, CCIF has raised a total of RMB 18 million Yuan (equivalent to $2.8 million), and has distributed more than 300,000 critical illness insurance to orphans and needy children across China. CCIF was awarded “Charity of the Year” on the Annual Conference of Philanthropy China 2010, an event launched by China Charity & Donation Information Center under the supervision of China Ministry of Civil Affairs.
