The California-Asia Business Council (Cal-Asia) is saddened by the tragic consequences of the earthquake and tsunami that struck the northern coast of Japan on March 11, but we are heartened to see that the Japanese people are responding with great courage and resilience.
The earthquake and tsunami resulted in floods, fires and extensive damage to ports, airports, transit systems, utilities and public and private structures. Thousands of people were killed, and homes, fields and towns were flooded or destroyed. Following the disaster, damage to nuclear power facilities created dangerous radiation leaks. Manufacturing has been severely impacted; overall, the economy has been hit hard.
To help fund the emergency response and the long-term recovery efforts that will be needed to rebuild damaged communities and the Japanese economy, Cal-Asia announces the creation of the California-Asia Business Council (Cal-Asia) Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund. The donations from Cal-Asia’s members and friends to the fund will go to organizations in Japan supporting the relief and recovery efforts that are now being identified by our partners at Give2Asia. Please download this page for more information on the specific organizations which will be funded by your donations.
The California-Asia Business Council (Cal-Asia), founded in 1971 and based in San Francisco, is a 501(c)6 non-profit which uses programming that is rich in content and contacts to help catalyze commerce between California and Asia. To learn more, visit our website, www.calasia.org.
