On March 11, a 9.0 earthquake struck off the northeast coast of Japan near the city of Sendai. The earthquake generated a massive tsunami with waves as high as 30 feet, resulting in floods, fires and the closure of airports and transit systems. Thousands of people were killed, and homes, fields and towns were flooded or destroyed.
The AAMA Japan Earthquake & Tsunami Fund at Give2Asia is responding to the needs of survivors, and donations will primarily go toward short-term to long-term recovery projects undertaken in the affected communities. Give2Asia is working with its local advisors based in Tokyo to assess the current situation and to work closely with NGOs on the ground in the hardest hit areas.
