The inaugural Asian Venture Philanthropy Network (AVPN) Annual Conference 2013 will be the first and largest gathering of venture philanthropists and social investors in the region. We are happy to share that Deshpande Foundation will host its Sixth annual Development Dialogue (DD-2013) from January 30th to February 1st 2013 in Hubli, India.
The year 2013 also marks the completion of five years of the creation of “Sandbox Ecosystem”. Our accomplishments are reflected through the meaningful partnerships, numerous scalable and proven ideas and setting processes for catalysing the growth of social entrepreneurship.
“Social Innovation Sandbox” was created in Hubli with a vision to provide a conducive space for entrepreneurs with transformative ideas to succeed and thrive. DD-2013 is an opportunity for us to focus on catalysts and ideas that have been able to attain the ‘tipping point’, a magical point when an idea crosses a threshold to make a big impact. The event will highlight such ideas in sandbox that have moved from innovation to scale and have reached a critical mass.
Like the past years, DD-2013 will have participants from different continents and backgrounds including: government officials, catalysts, philanthropists, innovators, academics, young professionals, social entrepreneurs, peer investors, visionaries and leaders. This three-day event is a culmination of thought provoking panels on relevant development themes. DD-2013 serves as a platform for like-minded entrepreneurs, philanthropists and professionals to meet each other and forge impactful partnerships that go beyond the Development Dialogue.

Social Enterprise Summit 2012 will kick off on 18 November 2012, with a series of activities to be held between 24 November and 4 December, focusing on the theme “Rejuvenate Our City through Social Innovation”. The flagship event is a three-day International Symposium, which will be held at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Once again, world-renowned experts, leading local social entrepreneurs, frontline social business practitioners, academics, government representatives, NGO and business leaders and aspiring young social entrepreneurs will gather to exchange ideas and experiences.
On November 14 in Kabul and Washington, D.C., The Asia Foundation will shed light on what Afghans think about the upcoming transition of Afghanistan’s security from NATO-led forces to the government, women’s issues, economic opportunities, and much more, when it releases its 8th Survey of the Afghan People – the broadest and most comprehensive public opinion poll in the country covering all 34 provinces.

This year we will recognize McKinsey & Company, a global management firm that has advised many of the world’s governments, top corporations and major institutions. In 2011, McKinsey & Company edited Reimagining Japan: The Quest for a Future That Works, a compilation of 80 global insights on Japan’s future following the triple disasters of 3/11. This unique volume marks a turning point for Japan that is commensurate to the Meiji Restoration and Japan’s post-war recovery.
We have an exciting program for the evening: a panel discussion of Japan’s future moderated by Michael Armacost, Former Ambassador to Japan. Our stellar panelists include Georges Desvaux, Senior Partner, McKinsey & Company; Glen S. Fukushima, Former Chairman & Director, Airbus Japan KK; Yotaro Kobayashi, Former President and CEO, Fuji Xerox Corporation; and George P.
